Monte Vista outlasted Benicia on Friday after five lead changes, squeaking out a 5-4 win in the 2nd Pool Play game at the 2015 Livermore Stampede Tournament.
The Mustangs took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. MV took the lead on an RBI single by Jordan Maddox off McKenna Gregory, plating Natalie Parker.
Lindsay Rood boosted her batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace Monte Vista. She singled in the first, third, and fifth innings.
Mackenzie Murphy recorded the win for Monte Vista. She allowed four runs over seven innings. Murphy struck out three, walked none and gave up 10 hits.
The top of the third saw the Mustangs take an early lead, 1-0. Rood singled to ignite Monte Vista’s offense. A stolen base then moved Rood from first to second. Murphy singled, scoring Rood.
Benicia scored 4 in the 6th to take a 4-2 lead, but MV scored 3 in the top of the 7th, with the go-ahead run coming on an RBI single by Murphy.
Murphy finished the game by getting the final 3 batters out, 2 fly balls and a strikeout.
