Jordan Maddox belted a 1-run homerun over the center field fence in the bottom of the sixth and Monte Vista held on to beat Liberty 2-1 in the first round of the NCS playoffs.
The Mustangs starter Mackenzie Murphy doesn’t need much help when she is on the rubber and she showed it on Wednesday against Liberty. Seven strong innings by Murphy carried Monte Vista to a 2-1 victory over Liberty in seven innings.
Maddox continued with the hot bat for the Mustangs, hitting her second homerun in as many games.
After a quick strike from Liberty in the top of the fourth, Monte Vista responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI single by Erin Yoshino that scored Alicia Yoshino.
The Mustangs face Heritage High in Brentwood on Friday in the second round of the NCS playoffs.
