Mustangs Defeat Cosumnes Oaks 4-3 in Game 3

After six lead changes in Friday’s final Pool Play game at the 2015 Livermore Stampede Tournament, Monte Vista pulled out a 4-3 win over Cosumnes Oaks in extra innings.

Monte Vista jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A double by Murphy, bringing home Rood started the inning off.

After allowing the Wolfpack to tie the game with 2 runs in the 6th inning, time expired and the game continued into extra innings. Monte Vista’s Natalie Parker made a great catch in right field and then doubled up the runner on second base to keep the game tied.

The Mustangs pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning. With Alicia Yoshino starting at second base, Mikayla Mills and Devon Parker both bunted successfully to load the bases for Lindsay Rood.

A sacrifice fly to deep center field by Rood scored Alicia Yoshino and gave Monte Vista the win.

Mackenzie Murphy was the winning pitcher for Monte Vista. She allowed three runs over seven innings. She struck out five, walked none and surrendered 10 hits.

Monte Vista finished pool play 3-0 and will compete in the Championship bracket on Saturday.
