Mustangs Make Most of 5 Hits in 3-2 Victory Over Carondelet

Monte Vista and Carondelet both threatened with rallies, but it was Monte Vista that eventually took advantage of them in a 3-2 win at Oak Park Middle School on Tuesday.

Carondelet got eight hits compared with just five for MV, but Carondelet stranded seven on base.

Monte Vista would not relinquish the lead as Carondelet was unable to weather a three-run fifth inning deficit.

Natalie Parker had two RBIs for Monte Vista; a sacrifice in the first and a triple in the fifth inning.

Mackenzie Murphy got the win for the Mustangs. She allowed two runs over seven innings, struck out one, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

Monte Vista never trailed after scoring in the first inning. The Mustangs tacked on another two runs in the fifth. The inning looked promising, as Parker tripled, bringing home Devon Parker to kick things off. That was followed up by Murphy’s single, scoring Parker.

Carondelet made it close by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th, but Murphy induced a groundball for the final out, stranding the tying run on second base and giving Monte Vista the win.
