Scoreboard operators were busy at SRV on Thursday as Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley combined for 21 runs. The Mustangs eventually won the offensive battle 13-8 in seven innings.
There were 33 hits, including seven extra base hits in the game.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game.
Monte Vista finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. MV went up for good on an RBI single by Alicia Yoshino, plating Mackenzie Murphy.
Jordan Maddox racked up three RBIs on three hits for Monte Vista Mustangs Varsity. She singled in the third and sixth innings and homered in the seventh inning.
Murphy struck out five, walked one and surrendered 13 hits on her way to victory.
The top of the first saw Monte Vista take an early lead, 2-0. The Mustangs’ threat began with a single by Lindsay Rood. A stolen base then moved Rood from first to second. Monte Vista pushed more runs across when Maddox scored on an RBI double by Yoshino.
San Ramon Valley answered Monte Vista’s top inning with three runs of its own in the first. San Ramon Valley scored on 2 RBI singles and an RBI double.
After another quick strike from Monte Vista, San Ramon Valley responded with three runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and then followed it up with one more in the sixth.
Monte Vista tied the game in the fifth on a two-run single by Rood that scored Erin Yoshino and Mikayla Mills.
Going into the top of the 7th and clinging to a 1 run lead, Monte Vista’s Jordan Maddox provided the power and extra insurance runs by hitting a 3 run homerun to center field, which closed out the scoring.
Monte Vista finished the regular season with a league record of 9-5, and an overall record of 16-8. The Mustangs will find out their opening round NCS opponent Sunday evening and will be playing either Tuesday 5/26 or Wednesday 5/27.
