2018 Tryout Criteria

TRYOUT Criteria Guidelines

  1. ALL TRYOUTS OUR CLOSED TO NON-STUDENT-ATHLETES
  2. Initial safety cuts will occur following a three-day tryout period.
  3. Remaining future cuts will occur following an evaluation process in which students will be rated by their athleticism, positional skills, offensive effectiveness, and interpersonal, behavioral, and prosocial attributes.
  4. A multiplier will be applied to student-athlete ratings that will be used to rank all students by positions thereby establishing a statistical mean to help guide coaches in the selection process and team assignments.
  5. Coaches will select the Varsity Team based on available talent to build the most competitive squad of 12-15 players that will contribute to the betterment of the team and program.
  6. Coaches will select the Junior Varsity Team based on available student-athletes after the varsity positions have been filled.  All remaining, non-varsity players will be selected for their potential for growth and development towards future varsity opportunities and to the overall contribution to the program.
  7. Any remaining players that are not selected for the program will be cut based on matrix criteria, program needs, and/or personal characteristic; e.g. coach-ability, attitude, behave, etc.
  8. There will be three sets of cuts that will be posted on program website listing all the players that are called back to continue through the process.  Any player not on the list of “call-backs” are encouraged to meet with the coaching staff (DATE/TIME/LOCATION) to discuss the reason for not being selected to one of the team.
  9. All winter sports athletes will be permitted to try out for both teams at the conclusion of their winter sport.
