Steve Renfro – Head Varsity Coach
Coach Steve Renfro has been coaching softball for 15-years beginning with the local recreational league before transferring into club and high school softball. His high school coaching experience began at Monte Vista assisting the JV team for one year winning the James Logan JV Tournament. The following year Coach Renfro transferred to California High School where he assisted the Varsity team for 3-years before taking over the program at Miramonte High School. Coach Renfro also continues to provide comprehensive hitting instruction to players of all ages providing sound mechanics, strategies, and tactics that promote self-efficacy and offensive performance.
Coach Renfro received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from California State of the East Bay before moving on and earning his Master of Arts Degree in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University. Being a life-long learner, he has also received numerous collegiate course level certifications taught by influential fastpitch coaches and is an active member of National Fastpitch Coaches Association, National Federation of High School Coaches, and USA Softball.
Coach Renfro’s high school teams made several NCS appearances that also included a first-place league tie in 2012. Success in coaching clubs teams has led to collegiate opportunities for many student-athletes and several appearances in national and regional championships. In 2013 his 12U took 2nd place in the USSSA State Championship, in 2015 his 14U team tied for 5th place in the PGF Premier National Championships, and in 2017 his 14U team was ranked 54th in the nation by FloSoftball.
Additional awards and achievements include being nominated as “Business Person of the Year” in 2013 by the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce. Then in 2014, Steve Renfro was honored with the distinct “Citizen of the Year” award by the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce for his work in the community. In 2012, Coach Renfro was also recognized by the San Ramon Valley Girls Athletic League with the Volunteer Hall of Fame Award.
Simply put, Coach Renfro believes that growth occurs through diligent instruction that promotes transferable learning using proven training methods. By implementing fluid and dynamic coaching concepts that integrates all learning domains, Coach Renfro applies his knowledge, experience, and artful instruction of softball in a manner that promotes life-long skills, self-confidence, and self-expression in his student-athletes, thereby encouraging them to peruse greatness on their own, both on-and-off the field.
Katelynn Beamish – Head Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Beamish played softball for 12 years, ending her career as a player for Folsom High School’s varsity team. She played the position of catcher, right field, and third base. Her coaching experience includes competitive youth softball as well as assisting in a variety of camps throughout her career.
Coach Beamish attended San Diego State University and earned a degree in English as well as earning a Single Subject Teaching Credential. At San Diego State Coach Beamish worked on the intramural staff as a referee of softball, soccer, and kickball! She was an avid attendee of sports events and wholeheartedly intertwined herself within the culture of the university.
This year is Ms. Beamish’s first year at Monte Vista as an English 10 and 11 teacher. She comes from a long line of teacher/coaches and is more than excited to extend what she has learned as a teacher, a coach, and a facilitator of community building with the Monte Vista Softball Program.
