Monte Vista Mustangs seize victory thanks to late double, drop Livermore 7-6

Monte Vista Mustangs outlasted Livermore on Thursday after four lead changes, squeaking out a 7-6 win at Monte Vista High School.

Monte Vista Mustangs finally managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. Monte Vista Mustangs went up for good on an RBI double by Alicia Yoshino off Samantha Whalen, scoring Marissa Maddox.

Marissa got on base three times in the game for Monte Vista Mustangs. She scored three runs and had one RBI. She singled in the third and fifth innings.

Mackenzie Murphy got the win for Monte Vista Mustangs despite allowing six runs over seven innings. Mackenzie struck out four, walked one and gave up eight hits.

Natalie Waters was charged with the loss. She lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed no runs.

Livermore jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Tayler Munoz singled to ignite Livermore’s offense. Hannah Bennett singled, bringing home Kristin Paulazzo and Tayler. Livermore then tacked on more runs when Bennett scored on an RBI single by Leah Taulton.

Monte Vista Mustangs scored one run in each of the fourth, fifth and seventh. In the fourth, Monte Vista Mustangs scored on an RBI single by Mackenzie, bringing home Lindsay Rood.

It didn’t take long for Monte Vista Mustangs to answer as it scored one run of its own in the seventh.
