Mustangs Fall to Logan 5-0 in NCS Semis

The Monte Vista Mustangs closed out their successful 2015 season with a loss to James Logan on Tuesday night in the NCS Semifinals. The biggest threat came in the top of the 7th after MV loaded the bases with 1 out, but was unable to push a run across the plate, losing 5-0. Jordan Maddox and Tressa Schroth were both 2 for 3 and Erin Yoshino had a base hit, giving Monte Vista 5 hits on the day.   Seniors Mackenzie Murphy, Lindsay Rood and Alicia Yoshino played their final game for Monte Vista. Mustangs Beat #2 Seed Heritage 10-0

In the second round of the NCS playoffs, #7 seed Monte Vista beat #2 seed Heritage 10-0 in 5 innings on Friday. Monte Vista’s Mackenzie Murphy kept Heritage off the scoreboard, pitching a shutout for all five innings she was in the circle. No opposing players to cross the plate on five hits while ringing up four. An eight-run explosion in the third inning put the game away for good. Monte Vista on an RBI single by Danielle Morelan, a groundout by Erin Yoshino, an RBI single by Tressa Schroth, an RBI single by Natalie Parker, a walk by Mackenzie Murphy, an RBI single by Jordan Maddox, an RBI single by Alicia Yoshino, and a passed ball. Maddox was solid at the plate for Monte Vista; going 3-4, driving in one and scored twice. Monte Vista went up for good in the second, scoring two runs on an error and an RBI single by Schroth. Monte Vista Wins NCS Round 1, Beats Liberty 2-1

Jordan Maddox belted a 1-run homerun over the center field fence in the bottom of the sixth and Monte Vista held on to beat Liberty 2-1 in the first round of the NCS playoffs. The Mustangs starter Mackenzie Murphy doesn’t need much help when she is on the rubber and she showed it on Wednesday against Liberty. Seven strong innings by Murphy carried Monte Vista to a 2-1 victory over Liberty in seven innings. Maddox continued with the hot bat for the Mustangs, hitting her second homerun in as many games. After a quick strike from Liberty in the top of the fourth, Monte Vista responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI single by Erin Yoshino that scored Alicia Yoshino. MV Beats San Ramon Valley in Shootout, 13-8

Scoreboard operators were busy at SRV on Thursday as Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley combined for 21 runs. The Mustangs eventually won the offensive battle 13-8 in seven innings. There were 33 hits, including seven extra base hits in the game. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game. Monte Vista finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. MV went up for good on an RBI single by Alicia Yoshino, plating Mackenzie Murphy. Jordan Maddox racked up three RBIs on three hits for Monte Vista Mustangs Varsity. She singled in the third and sixth innings and homered in the seventh inning. Murphy struck out five, walked one and surrendered 13 hits on her way to victory. The top of the first saw Monte Vista take an early lead, 2-0. The Mustangs’ threat began with a single by Lindsay Rood. A stolen base then moved Rood from first to second. Monte Vista pushed more runs across when Maddox scored on an RBI double by Yoshino. San Ramon Valley answered Monte Vista’s top inning with three runs of its own in the first. San Ramon Valley scored on 2 RBI singles and an RBI double. After another quick strike from Monte Vista, San Ramon Valley responded with three runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and then followed it up with one more in the sixth. Monte Vista tied the game in the fifth on a two-run single by Rood that scored Erin Yoshino and Mikayla Mills. Going into the top of the 7th and clinging to a 1 run lead, Monte Vista’s Jordan Maddox provided the power and extra insurance runs by hitting a 3 run homerun to center field, which closed out the scoring. Monte Vista finished the regular season with a league record of 9-5, and an overall record of 16-8. Mackenzie Murphy went 2-3, but Monte Vista still fell to Amador 4-1 in seven innings on Tuesday at Amador Valley High. Murphy pitched six innings, walked three, struck out four, and allowed four runs. MV Makes Most of 8 Hits, Wins 7-5 over Carondelet

Monte Vista and Carondelet both had scoring chances on Friday, but it was Monte Vista that was able to capitalize on them as it pulled out a 7-5 win on “Senior Day” at MV, the final home game of the regular season. Carondelet had 11 hits compared with the Mustangs eight, but Carondelet stranded eight runners on base. Monte Vista staved off Carondelet as Carondelet was unable to match MV Varsity down the stretch. Carondelet scored four runs in the fifth on a two-run home run and a two-run single. Despite its efforts, Carondelet couldn’t finish the comeback. Monte Vista was led by Jordan Maddox‘s hitting. Maddox went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. She doubled in the first inning and singled in the third inning. Mackenzie Murphy recorded the win for Monte Vista even though she allowed five runs over seven innings. Murphy struck out four, walked one and gave up 11 hits. The top of the first saw Carondelet take an early lead, 1-0. MV Falls to Livermore After 9 Innings

Mackenzie Murphy both hit and pitched well for Monte Vista, but it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs fell to Livermore 3-2 at Robertson Park on Tuesday. Murphy racked up two RBIs on three hits for MV. She singled in the first, third, and fifth innings. Murphy was a workhorse in the circle as well. She pitched 8 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks with one strike out. Monte Vista Scores Late, Beats Cal High 5-4

Alicia Yoshino brought home the go-ahead run to give Monte Vista the lead in the sixth inning, as the Mustangs Varsity hung on to beat California High 5-4 on Thursday. Down 2 runs to 3 in the 6th inning, Jordan Maddox singled to start the inning. Danielle Morelan then reached first on a sac bunt error, moving Maddox to second. Yoshino then hit a double to center field, scoring both Maddox and Morelan to give the Mustangs a 4-3 lead. Monte Vista staved off California High as they were unable to match Monte Vista down the stretch. Cal scored 1 run in the bottom of the 7th, but with runners on second and third and 2 outs, the Mustang’s pitcher, Mackenzie Murphy, knocked down a hard hit ball up the middle and threw out the runner at first to end the game. Lindsay Rood led Monte Vista Mustangs Varsity’s offensive threat, as she got on base two times in the game. She scored two runs and had one RBI.The first run of the game came on the first pitch in the first inning. MV Comes From Behind, Beats Granada 4-3

Mackenzie Murphy was strong at the plate and in the circle in carrying Monte Vista to a 4-3 victory over Granada on Tuesday at MV. Granada took an early lead on a 3 run home run in the top of the first, but Murphy homered in the bottom of the first after Lindsay Rood singled to start the inning, closing the gap to 3-2.
