The Mustangs withstood a late surge by Livermore and held on to beat Livermore 4-3 on Thursday at Monte Vista. The early innings were a pitchers dual until the 5th inning when Monte Vista scored 4. Malia Torres lead off the inning with a double to right -center field. Devon Parker then bunted for a single, moving Torres to third. Tressa Schroth then induced an illegal pitch, awarding Torres home plate and the first score of the game. Schroth eventually walked, followed by an intentional walk to Lindsay Rood to load the bases. Natalie Parker walked, scoring Devon Parker and giving Monte Vista a 2 run lead. Mackenzie Murphy then hit a line drive to the first baseman, who doubled off Natalie Parker at first. With runners on second and third, Jordan Maddox singled to center field, giving MV a 4 run lead after 5 innings.
After 2 quick outs to start the top of the 7th, visiting Livermore hit back-to-back doubles to give the Cowboys their first run of the game. An error then allowed Livermore to score again, but Murphy struck out the next batter to give the Mustangs the 4-3 win.
