Monte Vista and Carondelet both had scoring chances on Friday, but it was Monte Vista that was able to capitalize on them as it pulled out a 7-5 win on “Senior Day” at MV, the final home game of the regular season.
Carondelet had 11 hits compared with the Mustangs eight, but Carondelet stranded eight runners on base.
Monte Vista staved off Carondelet as Carondelet was unable to match MV Varsity down the stretch.
Carondelet scored four runs in the fifth on a two-run home run and a two-run single. Despite its efforts, Carondelet couldn’t finish the comeback.
Monte Vista was led by Jordan Maddox‘s hitting. Maddox went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. She doubled in the first inning and singled in the third inning.
Mackenzie Murphy recorded the win for Monte Vista even though she allowed five runs over seven innings. Murphy struck out four, walked one and gave up 11 hits.
The top of the first saw Carondelet take an early lead, 1-0.
It didn’t take long for Monte Vista to answer as it scored one run of its own in the first, an RBI double by Maddox.
Monte Vista never trailed after scoring two runs in the second on an RBI double by Tressa Schroth and an RBI single by Lindsay Rood.
The Mustangs Varsity tacked on another four runs in the third. Erin Yoshino started the inning with a single, scoring Murphy and Maddox.
